Fire guts Access Bank in Ikotun [PHOTOS]

Fire on Tuesday gutted ATM gallery of Ikotun branch of Access Bank. It was learnt that the fire sparked off around 4 pm from a faulty air conditioner at the gallery, which spread through the hallway. The fire, which reportedly raged for about three hours was put out by officials of the Lagos State Fire Service who responded immediately to the bank. The fire service director, Mr Rasaq Fadipe, confirming the incident, said the gallery was heavily smoke-logged when they arrived. He said two fire trucks deployed in the area prevented the fire from spreading to the other parts of the bank. “The fire affected the batteries and inverters of the ATMs, numbering about six. “The place was heavily smoke-logged and we had to use a forklift and other apparatus to gain access to put out the fire. Southern Govs to meet in Lagos, first time in 12 years

The 17 governors from the South-west, South-east and South-south are to meet in Lagos on Monday to discuss latest national issues and forge stronger partnership. The last time such meeting held was in 2005, four years afters its first meeting. A statement by Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Tunji Bello, said the meeting would be co-hosted by the Governors of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode and Akwa Ibom, Emmanuel Udom. He said the governors would adopt a common position on the issues of armed robbery, kidnapping, devolution of powers and issue of fiscal federalism which have all gained prominence of late. “The 2017 Lagos summit of the 17 Southern Governors representing the South-south, South-west and South-east zones is expected to come up with a communiqué after the deliberation. “It is noteworthy to recall that the inaugural meeting of the Southern Governors took place in Lagos in 2001 under the administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Bello said. Lagos begins enforcement of ban on commercial motorcycle

The Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force on Enforcement of Road Traffic Laws, Olayinka Egbeyemi, yesterday said his team will commence the full enforcement of the State Laws of 2012 that banned motorcycle operators from plying certain routes across the state. He revealed this to journalists while reacting to an incident that occurred around Mile 2 area of Lagos, where a sister agency raided hideouts of miscreants and hoodlums. Ikeja Electric list areas that will experience 1-week blackout in Lagos

The Ikeja Electric Plc (IE) has said there will be an interruption of power supply to some parts of Lagos. This was disclosed on ​W​ednesday by the company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr Felix Ofulue in Lagos. Ofulue said the blackout, which will be experienced between November 3 to 10​, will affect Mende, Anthony, Maryland, Ikeja GRA, Shonibare Estate, parts of Ojota, Ketu, Ikosi, as well as Demurin and environs.. He also stated that the company will carry out a complete rehabilitation of Maryland Injection Substation, adding that this would involve the replacement of obsolete switch gear panels at the switch room. Nigerian Air Force (NAF) yesterday bombarded Boko Haram terrorists holding a meeting inside Sambisa forest. Air Commodore, Olatokunbo Adesanya, Director of Public Relations and Information, said this in a statement on Saturday. He noted that fighter jets conducted an air interdiction mission on a large structure in Talala, a location in Sambisa occupied by Boko Haram. “Intelligence reports from NAF Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance platforms as well as Human Intelligence had revealed that a sizeable number of BHTs were holding a meeting in the blue-roofed building”, Adesanya said. “Consequently, a NAF fighter aircraft was scrambled to attack the building. “Subsequent Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) revealed that the building and its occupants were neutralized as a result of the air strike”. Billionaire kidnap kingpin,  Chukwudumeme, Onwuamadike , alias Evans, has filed an application seeking to be released on bail. He also prayed the court to give his case an accelerated hearing.
