(Photos) The index case of Coronavirus in Nigeria, an Italian man, has tested negative and has been discharged from the Isolation centre of Yaba Mainland Hospital where he was quarantined and treated. Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu disclosed this on his official Twitter handle this night. As the COVID-19 Incident Commander for Lagos, I am glad to inform you that the index case; the Italian gentleman is now negative. Through a combined effort of Lagos, Ogun State and Fed Health Authorities, we were able to limit the transmission of the virus to a single contact. This involved aggressive contact tracing and containment strategies. However we now have several new imported cases and we hope we can apply the same contact tracing strategy along with social distancing to slow down the outbreak which may be brewing from these new cases. Osinbajo orders IGP to overhaul SARS

The Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Tuesday directed the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to immediately begin the overhaul of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad. He has also directed the National Human Rights Commission to set up a panel to probe allegations of rights abuse by the Police unit. The Senior Special Assistant to the Acting President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists. Akande said the Acting President’s directive was based on persistent complaints being made by members of the public against the SARS. He said Osinbajo also directed the Police IG to ensure that any unit that will emerge from the overhaul is intelligence-driven and restricted to the prevention and detection of crimes. Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday urged everyone to take a common stand against sexual and gender-based violence by advocating for the review of our laws to provide stiffer punishments for offenders given the serious threat the evil act poses to safety and security of women and the girl-child. Nigerian Twitter user Ore decided to take action after a Taxify driver bragged to him about sexually assaulting a female passenger who was drunk while in his cab. Taxify has now reportedly removed the driver from their platform and would hopefully take further meaningful action.
